Hainan has a 30-day visa-free entry policy for citizens of 59 countries — including the US, Canada, UK, Australia, most of the EU, Japan, South Korea and Singapore. To qualify, you must arrive on a direct flight to Hainan (or transit via Hong Kong) and register with a Hainan travel agency ahead of time — they file your passport, itinerary and hotel details with immigration at least 24 hours before arrival (48 hours recommended). The visa-free entry only covers Hainan; visiting other parts of mainland China requires a separate tourist visa (L visa). Visa rules can change, so please double-check the current requirements on the official sites before booking: Hainan Free Trade Port's Visa-Free Policy Guide at http://en.hnftp.gov.cn/tips/policy/202003/t20200317_3263796.html and China's National Immigration Administration at https://en.nia.gov.cn/n147418/n147463/c180637/content.html. We'll also send a reminder six weeks out.
Fly into Sanya Phoenix International (SYX). Direct flights run from Hong Kong, Singapore, Bangkok, Seoul and most major Chinese cities. From the US or Europe, the easiest path is a connection through Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong or Singapore. The resort is about a 50-minute drive from the airport — more transport details to come closer to the date.
Google, Instagram, WhatsApp and most western services are blocked on Chinese networks. Install a VPN before you arrive (Astrill and ExpressVPN both work well). WeChat works everywhere and is a lovely way to keep in touch with us during the trip — we'll share our IDs with the group chat in February.
Yes. Two nights at the Westin (19 → 21 March) and daily breakfast for each guest are our gift. Any extra nights, room upgrades, spa, restaurants and bar tabs are on you. Please RSVP early so we can hold your room.
Because the resort capacity is finite, we've named each guest's party on the invitation itself — including any plus-ones and children. Whoever appears on your card is who we're so delighted to host. If something looks off or you'd like to ask about an addition, please reach out to us directly and we'll do our best. The resort has a wonderful kids' club, too, if you'd ever like a quiet moment to yourselves.
Welcome party — resort casual: linen and light layers, sandals. Ceremony & reception — garden formal: long florals or light suits, no stilettos (grass underfoot). The colour palette for both events is shown on the dress code section.
Glorious. Sanya in late March is around 28°C / 82°F by day, dropping to a soft 22°C / 72°F in the evening. Light rain is rare. Pack reef-friendly sunscreen, a hat, a swimsuit, and one warmer layer for the breeze after dark.
The currency is the renminbi (¥ / RMB). Almost everything in China runs on Alipay and WeChat Pay — both now accept foreign cards if you set them up before you arrive. The Westin takes Visa, Mastercard and Amex. Tipping isn't customary in mainland China; service is included.
On the RSVP form there's a free-text dietary field. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halal and shellfish allergies are all easily accommodated by the resort kitchens. If your needs are more specific, please email us directly and we'll loop in the chef.
Swimsuit, sandals, a hat, reef-safe sunscreen, a light layer for evenings, your ceremony outfit, and an adapter (China uses Type A/I plugs, 220V). Anything you forget, the resort sundry shop has.

Extending your trip?

Sanya recommendations

A few of our favourites if you want to make a longer holiday of it.

I. Three minutes on foot

Sanya International Duty Free Mall

The world's largest duty-free complex — luxury fashion, watches, fragrance, and jewellery under one curved-roof landmark. The resort has a private garden path that lets out at the entrance.

II. A short drive

Haitang's Story

An open-air lifestyle precinct of boutiques, cafés, and patios — a relaxed afternoon of shopping or an unhurried dinner under the trees.

III. After dark

68 Food Court

A fairy-lit alley of Hainanese eateries and casual cafés. Best after sunset, when the lights come on and the locals come out.

IV. A day at sea

Wuzhizhou Island

A jewel of an island off the Sanya coast — crystal water, coral gardens, and a short ferry from the mainland. Half a day is enough for snorkelling, diving, or a quiet beach hour.
